Nau mai ra ki  Mahitahi .

Welcome

The Trust is located in Otahuhu, Tamaki-makau-rau, Auckland. Otahuhu is traditionally referred to as 'Te Tahuuhuutanga-o-Tainui' . The local tribes of the region are Waiohua, Ngati Te Ata, Ngai Tai, Tiakitai, Kawerau a Maki .

Mahitahi, itself is an iwi-whaanui organisation, and supports wellness and recovery programmes for taangata whai ora.


 

 

 

The objectives of Mahitahi are to support the following areas:


MAORI HEALTH

 Promote Whanau Ora - Maori Ora as the foundation on which service provision is built and ultimately delivered on.  

Recognise the supportive role of tikanga models of programme delivery ensuring that kaupapa Maaori is prominent and paramount in its structure.

Strengthen whanaungatanga as the medium of transparency for service delivery at both administrative and practicuum levels.


MENTAL  HEALTH

 Decrease the prevalence of mental illness and mental health problems within the community .

Increase the health status, and reduce the impact of mental disorders on tangata whaiora their whanau, hapu and iwi.



SOCIAL SERVICE

Foster and collaborate for the improvement of community-based health care facilities, and to support and promote services of all kinds for those people in the community with a disability through Kaupapa Maaori.

Promote the inclusion of kaupapa Maaori health models as an approach to assisting in the recognition of quality social service delivery.

Strengthen and foster whakawhanaungatanga, in the planning and implementation of services for those with disabilities and their whanau through recovery

Provide support toward sustainable employment

Provide opportunities to engage meaningfully with communities, services and programmes of choice

 

HEALTH AND DISABILITY TRAINING SERVICE

Provide quality education and training health programmes that assist in providing a kaupapa Maaori workforce that health can be confident of.
 
Develop training that in its provision supports and protects the integrity of Maaori health services and their intellectual knowledge
 

Support the Maori Health and Disability sector to strengthen community workforce development 

 

SOCIAL HOUSING OPPORTUNITY SERVICE

Assist with suitable housing options

seek additional options to natural support services that will enable retention of  the suitable housing 

link tenant with housing agencies to ensure appropriate knowledge of legal rigts and responsibilities

Spirit of Togetherness

The spirit of 'mahi tahi', created at the inception of the organisation, still continues to direct  progress for service creation and delivery within the Trust.

This approach has been the purpose on which the trust has grown and multiplied to the degree that it emphatically endorses a spirit of togetherness and is further supported by our organisational   whakatauaki;

' ma te mahi tahi ka whiwhi ora '

people together nurturing wellness

a collective responsibility is what Mahitahi aims for, that shares power and responsibility to all people who desire good health and wellbeing. This not only applies to Maaori but for taangata of all nations.
